Colors
Machesri Bishel Dragons come in three normal colors: Green, Blue, and Red. The most common color is Green, followed by Blue, and last, Red. Below are the characteristics associated with the major colors:
- Blue -- Blue dragons are swift and can move nearly
silently. They often have a strong link to the wind and
water, and develop breath weapons of those types. They are
known to develop powers of cleansing, both the mind and
physical, and they also have the ability to sense danger.
- Green -- Green dragons have an affinity for plants and
spend most of their time caring for intricate natural
gardens. They enjoy spring and summer and often hibernate
during the winter. They are known for their powers of
healing and the ability to relax others.
- Red -- These dragons have an affinity for heat and fire.
They are the warriors of the Bishen, fighting to protect
their allies and families. They have great powers of
strength and energy.
Of course, there are more than three colorations. Any other color is considered a mutation. These new colors have different abilities and often occur because of interbreeding between colors, extreme habitats, or influential bondmates. Occasionally, the colorations will manifest at the egg stage, but most are not visible until the Machesri hatches into a wyrm. Often, these mutations can be passed down to offspring. Below is a list of the known color mutations and their characteristics:
- Albino -- This is not a color, but, in fact, the complete lack of color or pigmentation of any type. These dragons appear completely white with pink or red eyes. They have no affiliations, and can be considered blank slates. They can be withdrawn, listless, and generally apathetic. Note that this is a rare genetic mutation, completely recessive to all other colors and pigments. These dragons are very sensitive to sunlight and prone to burn.
- Black -- A Black dragon is deep black with gray scales. Black dragons are considered the most dangerous
dragons. They enjoy solitude and are fiercely territorial,
even attacking members of their own species. They rarely
bond, and usually have no friends or mates, preferring to
guard their lairs and remain in their own brooding area.
They are feared as terrible, unreasonable monsters, even
by their own species. They often learn attacks that deal
with darkness, cold, or negative energy.
- Buckskin -- Buckskins are a creamy tan, with black pointing on their legs, tail, and muzzle. They have slightly darker back and belly scales. This coloration is very rare, and nearly always the result of magical manipulation. Buckskin dragons tend to be unobtrusive and calm most of the time. They often find themselves compelled to spend time alone, and they are known to be keen observers. Their magic lies in their ability to discover hidden truth, their insight, and their innate sense of direction. They make excellent guides, investigators, and sages.
- Divine -- Divine Bishel Dragons are a rare and wondrous mutation. They have been blessed by gods or other powerful entities, especially the Bishel Goddess Gratira, or are descended from blessed bloodlines. These dragons have feathers, which is a certain sign of their type. Also, they develop metallic or gem-like colorations. There are few blessed bloodlines at the Realm at current. Divine dragons have powers that are variable, but most are quite strong.
- Grey -- Grey dragons are a medium shade of gray with darker back and belly scales. They often appear in areas constantly wreathed in fog and mist, where the sun cannot reach them. They have a natural ability to blend into the background, and thus, they are rarely seen unless they choose to be seen. Like their White and Black cousins, they are solitary and prefer to remain unnoticed. While not vicious by nature, they can be manipulative if necessary. They often develop powers relating to invisibility, illusion, and deception.
- Ice Shard -- This coloration is a darker, deeper blue
than normal, with icy, reflective underside scales and back
ridges. These dragons love cold climates, although some have
been known to live in temperate zones too. They are moral
and high-minded in nature. They will often follow strict
religious codes or moral codes that they set for themselves.
These dragons are deeply in tune with the world around them,
and they often become crusaders for justice in the world.
- Midnight -- The Midnight coloration is the deep dark blue of the midnight sky with slightly darker, shiny scales. Midnight dragons always have a brilliant white star in the center of their foreheads. This star only diminishes in brightness when the dragon is sick or injured. Midnight dragons are the psychic mediums of the dragon world. They walk between the world of the living and the world of the dead. These dragons, preoccupied with a world beyond ours, are often loners; they are naturally able to battle and defend themselves on the spiritual plane. The one drawback to their extensive abilities is that they often attract spirits unwittingly, both bad and good, and they are frequently charged with helping spirits complete their unfinished business or forced to battle with spirits with evil intentions. One idiosyncrasy of this coloration is that it will follow one of two extremes in relation to belongings: Either it will obsessively hoard objects, as do its Black cousins, or it will completely renounce worldly goods as frivolous and meaningless.
- Moonstone -- This coloration is a light teal with a
multicolored sheen. The belly and back scales are a
blended, reflective purple-green. Bishel Dragons of the Moonstone
coloration represent good fortune to those who own them.
They prove to be extremely lucky, especially for safe passage
on sea voyages.
- Mountain Haze -- The Mountain Haze coloration is deep, grayish purple with lavender scales. Like the deep fogs that roll through
mountain valleys, Mountain Haze dragons are quite mysterious.
Although not much is known about this relatively new coloration,
legend tells us that like their blue cousins, they are silent
in movement; like the red dragons, they have great strength,
but little of the fiery temper. These dragons are said to
have a connection to peaceful rolling hills and valleys where
the fog descends each morning. They are at their best in
twilight, mist, and dawn. Their personalities are often
peaceful but loyal and able to endure hardship in order to
ensure the safety of their clan. In old legends, they are
often Kailan, sages, or mystics.
- Profane -- Profane Bishel Dragons are very rare. These dragons have been blessed by the Bishel God Aritarg, although some suggest they may be cursed by other deities. They can also be descended from Profane bloodlines. Profane dragons have from six to ten limbs, in different combinations of legs and wings. They all have horns, spines, and talons, and they may also have armor, fangs, spikes, blades, or other weapon mutations. Instead of a set coloration, they have a theme that sets both their coloration and the type of armor and weaponry they possess. Most Profane dragons are very strong, and many can learn new skills without the aid of Magical Objects, although they will usually receive one at their Shantel.
- Sea Splash -- This coloration is aqua with slightly lighter and bluer back and belly scales. Sea Splash dragons are a new color mutation, thought to be a mixture of Blue and Green coloration. They may appear on heavily vegetated shores, on islands, or in an environment that is rich in earth, wind, and water elements. They are quiet and caring by nature, and they are especially suited to tending others. They make excellent healers, for both creatures and plants, and they seem to have strong empath abilities.
- Sunshine -- These dragons are beautiful golden yellow with lighter cream wings and underbelly. These dragons are almost always of the arboreal type. Upon their foreheads they possess a brilliant glowing
jewel. This jewel is used to absorb and store energy from the
sun. These dragons need sunlight to survive and will become
sick and die when taken away from it. Sunshine dragons are
very social and outgoing. These dragons are loved by all and
bring sunshine to the lives of any who chance upon them. They
posses many special powers. They can provide light by glowing
brightly. Also, they have the power to raise the spirits of
others, exuding happiness and joy. Sunshine dragons rarely
ever cry, and if they do, the tear can be worn as a necklace
pendant, bringing good luck, fortune and happiness to the
wearer.
- White -- These dragons are white with slight blue shading
on their underbelly and wings. This is not to be confused with Albino, which lacks all pigment. White Bishel Dragons are
daydreamers, idealists, and poets. They are lovers of
solitude and creativity. White dragons love books, stories,
movies, music... anything with a tale to tell. They are not
especially friendly, preferring to be alone in solitude or
share their life with a select few. They like living in
places where people and disruptions won't bother them. You'll
never find them in places with loud noise or too much action.
A White dragon egg is given out at every Spring Festival.
Types
The Machesri have three major types: Terran, Arboreal, and Marine. Terrans are the most common, followed by Arboreal and Marine. Below are the three major types and their characteristics:
- Arboreal - Bishel Dragons with wings and no legs. They
live in trees, on cliffs, and around any other high
structures. They are active during the day, flying everywhere
before returning to their nests at dusk to roost.
- Marine - Smooth, snake-like dragons with no wings or legs.
These dragons live in or directly around bodies of water and
eat fish and kelp.
- Terran - Terran dragons have four legs and no wings.
They inhabit any land area and often live in burrows or
tunnels to avoid light. They are mainly nocturnal and prefer
the time just before dawn.
When different types of Machesri Bishen mate, there is a
chance of a hybrid hatching from one of their clutches.
Hybrids have different combinations of legs and wings than the normal types and are considered a mutation. Hybrid dragons are more likely to have hybrid offspring, although it is not guaranteed. Below are the hybrid types and their characteristics:
- Marine-Arboreal - Marine-Arboreal dragons are long and
snake-like, like Marines, but also have wings. Usually these
wings are stunted or frail, but occasionally dragons of this
type can fly as well as swim.
- Terran-Arboreal - These dragons have wings and legs. Usually they only have two front or two hind legs, but some have all four. Not all Terran-Arboreals are naturally able to fly, as their wings may be stunted. They usually have a love of high places and are avid climbers.
- Terran-Marine - These dragons are long and smooth, like Marines, but they also have legs. Usually, they only have two front or two hind legs, but sometimes, they can have all four. Sometimes, these limbs are stunted, and they always have webbed toes. Terran-Marines have connections to the land and to the water, and so they often live in swamps or marshes, or on small islands and
inlets.
